Can This Reputation
Be Saved?
Dell,
Apple, Sony, Starbucks, RadioShack and Email
One thing that recent crises at Dell, Apple, Sony, Starbucks and RadioShack all
have in common is email. Each of these companies has made blunders
that were compounded by the efficiency and facelessness of email. Reputation-wise,
those companies will probably recover, but the reputation of email can't be saved.
Of course, it's taken a lot more than this week's news to do it in, including
an insatiable demand for manhood enhancement, penny stock tips and watches that
look just like the real thing... (Read

BY THE BOOK
Warning!
This Book Could Change Your Life
"True
to Yourself: Leading a Values-Based Business" by Mark Albion
Mark
Albion is the kind of guy who changes people's lives. A few years
ago his book, "Making a Life, Making a Living," prompted
hundreds of people to rethink their lives and change careers. He
has now come out with a new book called "True to Yourself:
Leading a Values-Based Business." The premise is that if you
are true to your own values and act accordingly, you can add value
to your company. This philosophy is not new. It's what drove the
early success of The Body Shop, Stonyfield Farm Yogurt,
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, Tom's of Maine, Hannah Andersson and
dozens of other well-known brands...(You

Back-to-School
for Consultants
Nine techniques you can use
to
continually develop your expertise.
Constant
self-development is an absolute requirement
for any consultant. Think about it: Much of what we learn
in undergraduate or graduate schools becomes outdated in five years,
so it's up to us to expand our knowledge and understanding. I
learn something new every day and I'd like to share some of
my sources with you... (You

Given

and practical implementation earn him this month's kudos... (You

The
Menace of the Month:
Global
Insight and Wal-Mart
These
are the sorts of folks that give research (and, worst still, PR research)
a really, really bad name. A recent study, paid for by Wal-Mart and based
on data provided by Wal-Mart, conclusively demonstrates that (drum roll
please): Wal-Mart is good for the US economy! The retailer has incorporated
this bogus research into ads currently airing in selected markets around
the country... (You

The Paine of Measurement
Make
Some Mistakes and Learn Something
In
the measurement business, summer is certainly a slower time. Few of our clients
look at their reports in great detail, and the usual urgent request for a proposal "yesterday" becomes, "Sometime
next week is good." But all of that changes with Labor Day. Bosses come
back from vacation and demand metrics and dashboards. Budgets need to get finalized,
numbers need to get firmed up. It's like going back to school all over again... (Read

Measurement Tip
of the Month
Learn By Doing
The fastest way to learn something is to dive in and start to do it yourself.
So, if you are not measuring yet, start with baby steps. Do something--anything--to
get your hands on some data, improve your program and learn from the
process. If you already have a program in place, then stretch
a
bit
and push
your
efforts further.
