The Measurement Maven and Menace of the Month Awards

The Measurement Maven of the Month:

Kami Huyse

Communication Overtones

Kami's case study of SeaWorld's measurement of a social media program is rapidly becoming one of the classics of social media lore. It's a great example of combining social media with traditional market research to calculate a solid ROI.

But the real reason that Kami deserves our coveted Measurement Maven of the Month Award is to recognize her endless pursuit of solid metrics. She's always on the lookout for new measurement tips and techniques and shares what she learns on her blog, Communication Overtones. And we're not just naming her a maven because we tend to agree with her. Okay maybe we are. --KDP

The Measurement Menace of the Month:

Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

I made the enormous mistake of spending $75 for one of Global Industry Analysts' "reports" that sounded interesting. It was allegedly going to tell me about the size and growth prospects for the PR and Advertising research markets.

First they charged my credit card and then didn't deliver the report. After numerous requests, they finally sent me the report I ordered. It was all of one page long and told me absolutely nothing: No useful data, no description of methodology, nothing useful whatsoever.

Now, at KDPaine & Partners we occasionally disappoint someone with one of our reports. And if someone complains, we're happy to refund the money. In response to my complaint about their useless report, Global Industry Analysts said this: "Once purchased, the publications may not be returned or exchanged for any reason. All sales are final."

Consider yourself warned. --KDP
