July 30th, 2003 Measurement Site of the Month by Lindsey Wyckoff Whether you are a student, educator, or anything in between, we think you will find www.PR-education.org to be a great resource. A product of Kirk Hallahan of the Colorado State University Department of Journalism and Technical Communications, PR-education.org is a simple, straightforward site that contains links to pretty much every PR site known to man. It really is, as it touts, the “Web portal to public relations education.” Divided into sections for the student, educator, practitioner and sponsor, the links to various resources are well organized and intuitive. Even where links to online resources are not present, information is provided as to where the materials can be purchased or found. There are writing and research references, lists of PR associations, links to various places to study public relations, career planning information, internship information, PR survey results and most everything you need to know about PR (although not quite as much as we here at The Measurement Standard would like to see about research and measurement) but were afraid to ask. We would suggest the addition of a 'Measurement and Evaluation' section with links to measurement vendors, the IPR Measurement Commission and, of course, Measures of Success and The Measurement Standard. Also, after a thorough browsing, one can't help but wonder which of the update dates are correct. Or have some pages really not been updated since 1999? (If that is the case, we would definitely suggest that Mr. Hallahan toss a few of his students on the job.) And for
those of us out here who should probably wear glasses but aren’t
quite ready to take the plunge, an added bonus is that the font on the
interior pages is HUGE. This may not be the most aesthetically pleasing
site, but it definitely adheres to a fundamental dictum of Web design:
Form Follows Function. |
