July Weather Report

Make Hay
While the Sun Shines;
Thunderstorms Are Possible

The PR skies are clearing just a bit as war news wanes. New storms could break with little warning, however, as violence in the Mideast continues and Bush/Blair defend against those pesky WMDs. So get your stories out while there is somewhat of a lull in the weather, ’cause, as we say here in New Hampshire, “Don’t like the weather? Wait fifteen minutes...”

With summer in full swing (though not, so far, in our rather dour corner of the country) and a month chock full of independence, your message should be able to find something to tag along with. Just be sure your news is worthy enough to tote to the beach.

The independence day action this month begins with Canada Day on the first, and our own Independence Day, the Fourth of July, on—yes, you guessed it—the fourth. Other countries sharing in the independence celebration include:

  • Venezuela (July 5)
  • Argentina (July 9)
  • France (Bastille Day-July 14)
  • Belgium (July 21)
  • Poland (Liberation Day-July 22)
  • Peru (July 28)

You can even celebrate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act with Disability Independence Day on the 26th. So if your announcement is related to independence in any manner, find a way to piggyback it onto the freedom train and you will ride through smoothly until month’s end.

For those of you feeling left out, July is also Anti-Boredom Month, Hitchhiking Month, National Tennis Month and National Ice Cream Month. Break out the Palm Pilots, here are some more key dates in July:

  • July 1: International Joke Day
  • July 2: I Forgot Day
  • July 13: National Skeptics Day
  • July 15: Hugging Day
  • July 21: Monkey Day
  • July 27: Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day

And if you’d rather forget the stodgier holidays, participate in National Nude Day on the 14th (you won’t have to agonize over your outfit for the press conference). —LW
