Web Site of the Month

www.dickblick.com

Talk about measurement! What a find! Believe it or not, we actually spend a fair amount of crunch time rooting around in the cyber world for pictures of measuring devices, rulers, yardsticks and the like. And good ones are nearly impossible to come by; you can only live on clipart for so long—occasionally, you need a real live photograph.

We can understand why no one spends their days photographing rulers; however, we were perplexed to find that many sites selling tools of the trade (so to speak) don’t show a picture of their offerings. I mean, as Gertrude Stein might have lamented, a ruler is a ruler is a ruler, right? Wrong. Any design supply aficionado can tell you that.

That is why our site of the month for July is Dick Blick’s Art Supplies. (While we generally reserve this column for a site not affiliated with any vendor, we have temporarily set aside that tenet to indulge our inner geek.) Not only do they have a whole page dedicated to Rulers and Measurement Tools, but there is an image of each product. (And, get this, many can be enlarged in all their glory.)

Measurement freaks, go
ga-ga!

By the way, they sell a huge variety of other stuff, too. So if you find yourself in the market for a ruler, yardstick, proportional scale or other measuring device (or even just a picture of one), then Dick Blick Art Supplies is the site for you.
