Top PR Research and Measurement Experts to Speak at the Second Annual Summit on Measurement and Public Relations
Four days of measurement basics, case studies and cutting-edge techniques.

The public relations industry's top research professionals will present their latest finding and case studies September 21-24 2004 at the Second Annual Summit on the Future of Measurement and Accountability at the New England Center on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. Sponsored by the Institute for Public Relations, and media sponsor Ragan Communications, the Summit will feature four days devoted exclusively to PR and Communications Accountability, according to Measurement Standard Publisher and Paine & Partners CEO Katie Delahaye Paine. Look here for registration information.

Confirmed speakers include:
Dr. James Grunig, Dr. Don Stacks, Kathy Collins, Col. Michael Daily (US Marine Corps), Dr. Nanette Besson, Dr. Donald Wright, and Jerry Mikorenda.

Tuesday: Measurement 101
The conference kicks off with an all day Measurement 101 workshop taught by Katie Delahaye Paine. Attendees will get a solid grounding in basic measurement principals and each attendee will leave with a customized PR dashboard designed to measure his or her own individual program.

(Please note: The Measurement 101 workshop is not included in The Measurement Summit package. This session costs an extra $599 and requires a separate hotel reservation for Tuesday night which is not covered by the $599 registration fee. Contact The New England Center for reservations and special pricing information. Measurement 101 attendees are invited to take part in Case Study Day on Wednesday at no extra charge.)

Wednesday: Case Study Day
The next day, Wednesday, is Case Study Day, when attendees will have the opportunity to learn from their peers how measurement programs have been implemented. During this full day of presentations, attendees will learn:

  • How the US Marine Corps has implemented a standardized measurement system that can be implemented everywhere from Baghdad to Bolivia and explains succinctly to the Generals in charge the value of the public affairs efforts, and
  • How a major financial institution implemented a Six Sigma measurement program for internal communications.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask detailed questions of the speakers and learn from their experiences.

Thursday: Experts On The Future
On Thursday, the industry's leading experts will present their views on where PR Research and Measurement is headed, both in the US and around the world. Guest speakers from Germany, the UK and Latin America, along with leading academics and practitioners will discuss their latest state-of-the-art programs.

Friday: Hands-On Workshop
Finally, on Friday, attendees will learn the latest research methods in a hands-on workshop lead by Kathy Collins and Don Stacks, members of the IPR Measurement Commission.

Last year:
The first Summit, held in October of 2003, brought more than 60 of the best and brightest minds in measurement together to map the future of the field. "Before the first conference ended, we decided that this needed to be an annual affair," Paine said. "Our goal was to attract equal representation from the four pillars of our industry: academia, public relations agencies, clients and research suppliers. We met the goal for every pillar but academia. So this year we're excited to already have the Institute for Public Relations on board as a sponsor, which we hope will help spread the word throughout the PR research community. We hope to have twice as many academic papers this year and many more case histories."
