The
Forecast for December: Most corporate communicators consider the weeks between Christmas and New Year’s to be a frozen wasteland for announcements. They assume their publics won’t be reading anything because they’re too busy trimming trees or traveling over the river and through the woods. The holly-jolly result for savvy PR folks is that reporters tend to be more agreeable to taking your calls during this time; they’re not snowed under with the usual work, and they often have a comforting glass of eggnog close at hand. Remember, however, that you’ll probably find the more junior reporters on duty; everyone with seniority has leveraged it for a week in warmer climes. And anyone doing gift ideas has done them months ago, so don’t try a last minute pitch on that topic, unless it’s for Valentine’s Day. Dates to avoid:
