…It’s amazing. A lot of people see open data as being a watchdog. It’s not. It’s about being a partner.
Big data, open data, public data—the information collected by public agencies and government is increasingly becoming available to the public. This TED Talk covers some of the many problems with the data, from having to submit requests to receiving data in formats that are not readily usable, such as in PDFs. By establishing availability protocols and creating open data standards, citizen researchers can become effective partners with government, identifying solutions to problems and improving lives.
